Community Coaching Opportunities
Become a Community Tennis Coach!
USTA Chicago is looking for high school and college students, community residents, tennis players and others who enjoy sharing their love of tennis with others.
There’s no better way to express your passion for tennis than to coach the next generation of players! Over the past 20 years, there has not been significant growth in capacity and numbers of community tennis providers but there has been a HUGE boom in the number of tennis players thus creating a need for more coaches.
Once training is completed, you will have the following options to put your skills and passion to work:
Work with USTA Chicago delivering tennis in the parks
Work with other community tennis providers seeking staff
Run after-school programs
Run adult and junior tennis programs in parks
We are extremely excited to work with the Chicago Park District (CPD) on a three-year partnership that allows us to activate tennis courts around the city. For 2024, this partnership includes a need for coaches in three areas, free day camp instruction, youth Tennis 101 classes and adult Cardio Tennis classes.
Find the coaching fit for you! See below for class and job descriptions
- Station-based activities focused on introducing basic hand-eye coordination and racquet handling skills to youth ages 6 to 12.
- Instruction occurs as part of CPD’s six-week day camp.
- USTA Chicago attends each camp every week for as much time as is necessary for all campers to receive at least one hour of instruction each week.
- Traditional red ball instruction in class format.
- USTA’s Net Generation curriculum allows players to gain understanding of basic skills in a supportive, play-based format.
- Classes scheduled in series of six-week sessions and/or as five-day/week sessions as “extended day” camps with CPD’s day camp program
- Adult fitness classes run on a tennis court focusing on fast-paced games, high energy coaching and upbeat music.
- Lower compression orange balls are used to equalize skill levels and extend the length of points so athletes maximize cardio benefits.
- Classes held in six-week sessions with one-hour class held every week.
