USTA announces new Board of Directors for 2025-2026

Former ATP professional Brian Vahaly has been elected to lead the USTA as its Chairman of the Board and President beginning in January 2025, topping the new slate of Board of Directors announced today that will serve for the 2025-2026 term. Vahaly will assume the role from outgoing Chairman Dr. Brian Hainline, who served from 2023-2024.

 

Vahaly, 45, played professional tennis for seven years, reaching a world ranking of No. 64. He was the only male college graduate in the ATP Top 100 at the time and remains the only current or former ATP player to publicly come out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community. Since retiring from professional tennis, Vahaly has distinguished himself as a respected chief executive in the health and wellness sector. 

Vahaly has served on the USTA Board as the First Vice President, Treasurer, and the Chair of the Audit and Budget Committees. He was also a member of the Investment Committee and the board liaison for the Player Development and Youth Tennis councils.

 

“My focus as Chairman and President will be on applying a business-minded, data-driven approach to build on the incredible growth we’ve seen in the last five years to reach our goal of 35 million players by 2035,” said Vahaly.

 

“We will enhance digital and recreational play opportunities, expand court access, grow our network of outstanding coaches, and support American stars to inspire the next generation of players. Each one of us has the opportunity to make sure the benefits of tennis as the world’s healthiest sport are accessible to everyone. Together, we can create a space where anyone, no matter their background, feels welcome and inspired to play."

Joining Vahaly as officers on the 2025-2026 Board are J. Christopher Lewis of the Southern California Section as First Vice President; Maggie Chan Jones of USTA New England as Vice President; Megan Moulton-Levy of Mid-Atlantic as Vice President; and William (Bill) McGugin of USTA Southern as Secretary-Treasurer. Directors-at-Large include Catherine (CiCi) Bellis of USTA Florida; Laura F. Canfield of USTA Middle States; Chris Capossela of USTA Pacific Northwest; Violet Clark of USTA Midwest; Amanda Fink-Moore of USTA Texas; Kathleen Francis of USTA Eastern; Jon Rydberg of USTA Northern; Hon. Derek J. White of USTA Southern; and Perren Wong of USTA Eastern. Dr. Hainline, of USTA Eastern, will also continue to serve as Immediate Past President.
