Arizona official Edward Osnowitz honored with Nicholas E. Powel Award

Osnowitz (pictured) accumulated over 21 years of officiating experience prior to his retirement in September, having been certified as a USTA Referee, Foundation 2 Chair and Foundation 2 Rover over the course of his career. 

Having spent the last 12 years as a District Chair for Southern Arizona, Osnowitz played a crucial role in helping to mentor and educate the next generation of tennis officials in the area, and was routinely celebrated for not only his skills as a tennis official, but for his dedication to the sport and his craft over the past two decades.

“We are fortunate to have talented and dedicated officials such as Ed, who are truly making an impact in growing tennis at the grass-roots level,” said Sandi Pardon, Officials Committee National Chairperson. 

“Ed is known by his peers, players, and tournament staff for his leadership, mentorship and willingness to help others. For these reasons and many more, he is so deserving of this recognition.”

Each year, the USTA Officiating department honors those individuals who serve the game of tennis with distinction in their capacity as officials and/or chair umpires with a variety of awards and a ceremony typically held at the US Open. 

Due to circumstances necessitated by COVID-19, the Nicholas E. Powel Award will be the sole award presented for officiating this year.
