We’re there for our players
For young players, there’s often no better feeling than walking into your tennis practice and being able to share a moment from your day with your coach. It could be anything—you earned an A on a test, you disagreed with a friend, or you learned something exciting or important in school.
Our players share because they trust us with their secrets, we encourage them to work hard, and through learning forehands, backhands, serves and all strokes, we instill confidence that carries them beyond the boundaries of any court.
Just because we are not physically on the court right now with our players, our jobs as mentors do not stop.
Now more than ever, we need to be there for our players. Support can look different from all of us and can vary from player to player, but it is most important that our players know they can continue to rely on us and share when they want to. We are responsible for creating environments that connect our players. Through virtual classes, check-in calls and different activities, we can take the lessons we teach on the court into each of their homes. Our role never stops.
To be able to be there for our players, we must remember to take care of ourselves. Being a role model for our players comes with the responsibility to maintain our health, show resilience and share our kindness. As we say on the court, model the behavior you want to see in your players.
We are all navigating this unknown journey together. We must dig deeper to not only take care of ourselves, but show the commitment we have to our tennis community. Now is our time to show our players they can always count on us.
