Each year, junior players throughout the state are honored with awards named after leaders and legends of Texas Tennis for their outstanding sportsmanship and fair play, both on and off the court. Up to 10 junior sportsmanship awards – eight divisional, two outstanding – may be presented each year. The recipients of the two outstanding awards are automatically nominated for the USTA Bill Talbert Junior Sportsmanship Award, when applicable.
Good sportsmanship can be defined as the practice of displaying respect, fairness, and empathy towards opponents, officials, and teammates. It encompasses a set of behaviors and attitudes that promote a positive and inclusive sports environment. By embodying these qualities, athletes can contribute to a culture of sportsmanship that benefits themselves and those around them.
