Autumn Wollenzien: Head Coach of Texas A&M-Kingsville Women’s Tennis

Binh Tran | October 18, 2024

Autumn Wollenzien has served as the head coach of the Texas A&M University-Kingsville women's tennis program since July 1, 2014. She joined the Javelinas after four successful seasons as the head coach at Clark Atlanta University.

Under Wollenzien's leadership, the 2020-21 season marked a significant milestone, with the Javelinas achieving their first-ever NCAA South Central Regional appearance. The team finished with an 8-9 record and a 5-4 mark in the Lone Star Conference (LSC). Despite inclement weather preventing them from competing in the LSC Tournament, the Javelinas celebrated key victories, including a Division I win over UTRGV and a five-match winning streak in LSC play.

The Javelinas continued to excel academically, earning their seventh consecutive ITA All-Academic Team award and seeing seven players named ITA All-Academic Scholar-Athletes.

In previous seasons, Wollenzien guided the Javelinas to multiple ranked victories, including a notable upset against No. 15 Tarleton in 2019. Her efforts have led to several individual honors, including All-LSC selections and national rankings for her players.

She has received numerous coaching accolades, including the SIAC Coach of the Year honors and the USTA Multi-Cultural Grant.

Wollenzien’s coaching journey began in Chicago, where she volunteered in youth programs before earning her coaching certification at Clark Atlanta. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in mass media arts/journalism and a Master’s in Sports Athletic Administration. Outside of coaching, she has experience in e-commerce and photography, contributing to her well-rounded approach to mentorship and athletics.

Wollenzien is married to Gregory Wollenzien and continues to be active in community outreach, including volunteering with organizations such as the Special Olympics and the Boys and Girls Club of Kingsville.
