USTA AWARDS SOUTHWEST FACILITIES  $140,500 IN COVID-19 RETURN TO PLAY GRANTS

June 15, 2020

The United States Tennis Association Southwest Section (USTA Southwest) - in conjunction with the USTA National office - recently awarded $140,500 in recovery funding to assist the region’s public and private tennis facilities affected by the extensive shutdown during the COVID-19 pandemic.

These recovery grants, 36 in all, were given out to applicants of high-traffic, high volume public and private tennis facilities and partners that support and help deliver USTA programming in the Southwest.

“With the incredible downturn and lag in play since the nationwide shutdown, many of these facilities have taken a massive financial hit, and continue to,” said USTA Southwest Executive Director, Eric Mitchell. “These recovery grants from the USTA were given out to help offset some of these losses, knowing full well that local facilities are the frontline for support of the sport in the Southwest.”

Facilities can use the funding how they see fit, including putting in ‘Return to Play’ safety measures at their facilities like touchless water faucets, soap dispensers and other things that promote social distancing and safe play during this time.

Facilities located in the Southwest with 4-7 courts were eligible for a maximum of $2,000, while those with 8-11 courts were funded up to $3,500. Facilities with 12 or more courts were eligible for a grant up to $5,000.
