USTA launches junior wheelchair tennis tournament series

June 11, 2021

Junior wheelchair tennis players across the country will have the opportunity to compete in eight tournaments across six states through the rest of the year in the inaugural edition of the USTA's Junior Wheelchair Tennis Tournament Series.

The focus of this series, the first-ever unified structure of national junior wheelchair tennis events, is to provide junior wheelchair tennis players with level-based play opportunities and to encourage providers to expand their tournament offerings for junior wheelchair athletes. Its goal is to increase participation in wheelchair tennis among juniors annually.

“This series will provide our junior wheelchair athletes with consistent, level-based play opportunities that will allow current players to compete year-round, while also hopefully opening up doors for new players to join the sport,” said Tracy Davies, Managing Director, Recreational Competition, USTA. “This is an important step as we fully integrate wheelchair tennis across all of the USTA’s products and programs."

The tournaments are open to all junior wheelchair tennis players, and some tournaments are providing financial support for players to cover entry fees and other expenses.
