May is National Tennis Month: Get out and play!
You could, of course, make a very valid argument that every month should be National Tennis Month. After all, tennis is the world’s healthiest sport, offering those who make it a part of their lives a bounty of benefits unmatched by any other sport. Numerous studies have proven that playing tennis increases both physical and mental health, and that those who play it live an average of nine years longer than their sedentary counterparts (who, unsurprisingly, have no celebratory month of their own). The data couldn’t be more clear: When it comes to sports, tennis is in a league of its own.
So get ready to raise a racquet because once again this year, May is National Tennis Month, a full 31 days of celebration of the singular sport of tennis. Throughout the month, hundreds of events for players of all ages and abilities, (as well as for those who’d like to become players), will be taking place in communities large and small across the country.
These events are each custom-designed to make the sport more accessible and help to better retain players of all playing levels so that they all can enjoy the myriad benefits of this lifetime sport.
There will be something for everyone during National Tennis Month, with a host of clinics, competitions, social mixers and more, all aimed at making tennis more engaging—and more fun—for more people.
Adding an exclamation point on fun this year will be National Tennis Month’s “Hit to be Fit Day” on May 19, with hundreds of facilities nationwide hosting both introductory Adult Red Ball clinics and Cardio Tennis Triples events—the latter combining tennis with heart-pumping fitness drills. It’s a day in which you can get into the game and get a great workout through the game. Reflecting the theme of National Tennis Month, it’s tennis for everyone.
Good deal? You bet. But there’s a good deal more. When you host an event as a provider or sign up for an event as a player, you can register to win a pair of tickets to the 2024 US Open. One pair of tickets for providers and one pair for players will be awarded each week during National Tennis Month. Who knows? You might just win your way to the world’s most spectacular sporting event just by playing the world’s healthiest sport. That’s pretty much the definition of “win-win.”
In truth, everyone is a winner during National Tennis Month, just by taking part in the celebration. Sporting goods retailer Dick’s Sporting Goods and Fage yogurt are joining in to help promote NTM nationally. And with so many events taking place in each of the USTA’s 17 sections, it’s easy to find one perfectly suited for you. This is a national celebration with a local focus, as programming and events are decided by local tennis providers who understand the wants and needs of their own tennis communities.
“National Tennis Month is a fantastic opportunity for our tennis community to come together and celebrate all that our amazing sport has to offer,” says Elliott Pettit, the USTA’s Senior Director of Retention & Brand. “We hope it can serve as a connector to better retain new players, inspire our current players and strengthen ties locally where the game is played. More than anything, we just want people to get out and enjoy the world’s healthiest sport!”
Everything you need to know about hosting a National Tennis Month event (including marketing and promotional materials) or finding programming near you can be accomplished in one simple click here. There, you’ll also find information on entering the US Open ticket sweepstakes.
There’s no better time than May to make the lifetime sport of tennis a part of your life. It’s National Tennis Month—get out and play!
