U.S. edged by Slovakia to end 2024 Finals campaign

The U.S. Billie Jean King Cup team's quest for a record-extending 19th Billie Jean King Cup title ended at the first hurdle of the 2024 Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Malaga, Spain with a tight 2-1 loss to Slovakia. Saving six match points, the doubles team of Ashlyn Krueger and Taylor Townsend was beaten by Viktoria Hruncakova and Tereza Mihalikova in the deciding doubles 6-3, 3-6, [10-8] to close the book on former world No. 1 Lindsay Davenport's first year as captain. 

 

The U.S. will begin its 2025 competition in the qualifying round for next year's Finals, set to be played in April.


HISTORY

The Billie Jean King Cup, the premier international  women's tennis team competition formerly known as the Fed Cup, was officially rebranded in honor of the legendary Billie Jean King in late 2020.

 

Some of the greatest tennis players in the history of the game have suited up for the U.S., helping it win a record 18 titles in the competition since the event began in 1963.
